About Vesel
We walk people into the light, and back out.
One forest, eight guides, eight lines. Small groups, early starts, and a month every year when nobody walks at all.

The forest was here first. We are guests who know the way.
Vesel started with one person standing at a gate in the dark, waiting for a shaft of light that a map said would come at 07:29. It came at 07:31. She has been standing in the right place for it ever since, and now there are eight of us.
We run four main lines and four seasonal ones through one forest. Each has a guide who walks it more than anyone alive, a place it sleeps, and an hour it is built around. Groups are eight at most. We start before it is light and we do not use headlamps, because the forest is not black, it is a hundred greys you have not learned yet.
Every May the gate closes for a month. Nobody walks, not even us. It is the best month for light and that is exactly why we give it up.
How a walk works.
Before
We write back within a day.
Pick a line, tell us who is coming. We reply with the hour we meet, the kit you need, and the one rule about headlamps.
On the line
Eight people, one guide, no hurry.
The guide reads the light, not the clock. You will stop more than you expect and see more than you planned.
After
A note from the walk.
Every group gets the guide’s note: what the light did that morning, and the frames they took. Some of them end up in the journal.
The eight of us.
Five things we do not bend on.
Come and stand at the gate.
Pick a line, tell us who is coming, and
we will write back within a day with the hour we meet.
